Physical Disabilities

A physical disability is a limitation on a person's physical functioning, mobility, dexterity or stamina

Here you will find a number of other interesting summative documents that do not deal with the DeveloperSpace topic (access to ICT), but provide a more spherical view of other aspects of disability.

Eyelid Gestures on Mobile Devices for People with Motor Impairments

M. Fan, Z. Li, F. Li

Data were collected to design, detect, and evaluate a set of eyelid gestures for people with motor impairments on mobile devices. A Samsung S7 Android phone running Android OS 8.0 was used as the testing device to collect eyelid states and evaluate the eyelid gesture recognition app in real time.

PDMove

H. Zhang, C. Xu, H. Li, A. Rathore, C. Song, Z. Yan, D. Li, F. Lin, K. Wang, W. Xu

PDMove, a smartphone-based passive sensing system, compares diferent gait patterns before and after taking medication to facilitate medication adherence monitoring. PDMove passively collects gait data in a nonclinical daily-life environment using built-in inertial sensors of a smartphone, and afterward the gait preprocessor helps extract gait cycle containing the Parkinsonism-related biomarkers.

Detection of Nasalized Voiced Stops in Cleft Palate Speech Using Epoch-Synchronous Features

C. M. Vikram, N. Adiga, S. R. Mahadeva Prasanna

To create an algorithm for the detection of nasalized voiced stops in CP speech using epoch-synchronous features Participants were asked to repeat the target words spoken by the instructor and were recorded using Bruel & Kjaer sound level meter in a sound-treated room.

A Smartphone-Based Tool for AssessingParkinsonian Hand Tremor

N. Kostikis

Smartphone sensors are used to classify tremors in Parkinson's patients corellated with the UPDRS scale. Participants wore smartphone based gloves and data during tremors was collected and features like accelertation were computed after the data was collected.

A treatment–response index from wearable sensors for quantifying Parkinson's disease motor states

I. Thomas, J. Westin, M. Alam, F. Bergquist, D. Nyholm, M. Senek, M. Memedi

Accelometry data was collected to identify dyskinesia during hand pronation. After being administered with single levodopa dose, participants were asked to perform standardized wrist rotation tests, using each hand while wearing a wrist sensor.

Unbiased and Mobile Gait Analysis Detects Motor Impairment in Parkinson's Disease

J. Klucken, J. Barth

A machine learning classifier to automatically detect motor impariment in patients with Parkinson's disease is constructed. To train the classifier a dataset of gait movements measured by acclerometer is collected. A mobile biosensor attached to the foot, eGaIT, is used to collect accelerometer, gyroscopes data during standarized gait and leg functions. Two participant groups are used to collect independent training and validation datasets.

B. Youngmann, L. Allerh, O. Paltiel, E. Yom‐Tov, D. Arkadir

Mouse and keyboard interactions with a search engine can provide data that is used in a classifier to reliably detect individuals at high risk for actual Parkinson's disease and serve as an idicator for the progression of the disease Microsoft bing search queries were collected and the cursor movements and keystrokes were recorded

A Video-Based Method for Automatically Rating Ataxia

R. Jaroensri

A dataset of video demonstrations is collected to build a neural network based classifier for automatically ataxia. A video of hand movements is collected while participants perform a hand-to-note test and then it is labelled by a clinician.
